At the ESSL Research and Training Centre in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, ESSL performs workshops, training and testbed activities like the EUMETSAT-ESSL Testbed. ESSL is engaged in basic and applied research, it is the organizer of the European Conferences on Severe Storms, it provides the European Weather Observer App (EWOB), and it collects event and impact data in the European Severe Weather Database (ESWD), the latter mainly by its second legal entity based in Germany.
