Within\u00a0the RAIN project, ESSL\u00a0researchers Tom\u00e1\u0161 P\u00fa\u010dik and Pieter Groenemeijer have produced projections of severe weather\u00a0changes according to\u00a0the EuroCordex regional climate model ensemble.<\/p>\n
The ESSL researchers found that\u00a0the consensus of the model projections suggested a 10 – 30% increase of severe convective weather events across much of Europe and 30 – 60 % in south-central\u00a0Europe in the business-as-usual rcp8.5 scenario by the end of the century. These increases\u00a0would be\u00a0about half as large in the rcp4.5 scenario that\u00a0assumes moderate climate change mitigation efforts.<\/p>\n
RAIN project partners of the Finnish Meteorological\u00a0Institute, Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin and the Technical University Delft have investigated other hazards, such as wind storms, floods, forest fire and winter weather.<\/p>\n
