The exam on Friday afternoon consists of a theoretical and a practical part and takes about one hour. Testimonial results will be given as a percentage of the total number of questions answered correctly (see examples below). The Friday afternoon on-site Testimonial can be taken without extra cost to the regular seminar fee.

On request, the exam can be repeated later online. In this case, an extra fee of EUR 150,- would apply per repetition.

In the light of the decisions of the 17th session of the WMO congress (regarding required public weather service competences for warning meteorologists) your Testimonial might become valuable under certain circumstances.

The following persons have received proof for the highest level of knowledge in forecasting severe convection in Europe:

2017

Ms. Michou Baart de la Faille (KNMI, Netherlands)
Mr. Mateusz Barczyk (IMGW, Poland)
Mr. Marcus Beyer (DWD, Germany)
Mr. Bodo Erhard (DWD, Germany)
Mr. Manuel Oberhuber (ORF, Italy)
Mr. Vinko Šoljan (CroatiaControl, Croatia)

2018

Ms. Melanie Ruosch (MeteoSwiss, Switzerland)
Mr. Jens Bonewitz (DWD, Germany)
Mr. Michaël Kreitz (MeteoFrance, France)

2019

Mr. Szymon Poręba (IMGW, Poland)
Mr. Rutger Boonstra (KNMI, The Netherlands)
Mr. Jens Oehmichen (DWD, Germany)
Mr. Benedikt März (DWD, Germany)
Mr. Miroslav Šinger (SHMI, Slovakia)

2024

Mr. Werner Verant (Civil Protection Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy)
Mr. Luzian Schmassmann (SRF, Switzerland)
Mr. Anton Riff (Université Paris Cité, France)

2025

Ms. Carmen Schüssling (ORF, Austria)

*

The following persons have received proof for the highest level of knowledge in aviation forecasting of severe convection in Europe:

2018

Dr. Tymvios Filippos (Department of Met., Cyprus)
Mr. Georgiev Georgi (BULATSA, Bulgaria)
Mr. Rosen Penchev (BULATSA, Bulgaria)
Ms. Majken Demant (DMI, Denmark)

2024

Mr. Rafał Jastrzębski (IMGW, Poland)
Mr. Johannes Häkkinen (FMI, Finnland)
Mr. Nevio Babić (CroControl, Croatia)
Mr. József Kohút (SHMU, Slovakia)

2025

Mr. Wen-Hao Wen (Air Navigation and Weather Services, CAA, MOTC, Taiwan)
Mr. Meng-Syuan Wu (Air Navigation and Weather Services, CAA, MOTC, Taiwan)
Mr. Adhithiyan Nedunchera (GeoSphere Austria, India)

*

The following persons have received proof for the highest level of knowledge in forecasting convective rainfall and flash floods in Europe:

2018

Mr. Rainer Kaltenberger (ZAMG, Austria)
Mr. Marcus Beyer (DWD, Germany)
Mr. Robert Scholz (DWD, Germany)

Grading/marking system for ESSL knowledge level testimonials

Theoretical part >50 % and practical part >50 % … (third class) honours

Theoretical part >70 % and practical part >70 % … (second class) honours

Theoretical part >90 % and practical part >90 % … first class honours

Example certificates

In addition to the certificate of participation, ESSL offers the opportunity to take an exam (“European Testimonial on Forecasting Severe Convection I / II”) in connection with our seminars.
