In 2007, the German Committee for Disaster Reduction (Deutsches Komitee zur Katastrophenvorsorge, DKKV) invited me to participate in their 2nd International Workshop "Severe Storms over Europe - A Cross-Border Perspective of Disaster Reduction" and to give a presentation there on the subject:
Potential benefits for pan-European forecasting of severe storms
from the establishment of a "European Storms Prediction Centre"
according to the US model.
As I considered this an important (but also somewhat sensitive) topic, I happily accepted the invitation by DKKV and gave the talk and extended abstract given below. In the proceedings of the workshop (DKKV publication series no. 36), a two-page report on the talk appeared and can also be accessed here.
Below you can find links to the programme, presentations and proceedings of the DKKV workshop and also to the extended abstract and the talk on the proposed concept of an ESPC.
