ESSL is a non-profit research institute, seated in Wessling (Germany).

Our mission is to make Europe more resilient against severe weather by performing research on severe convective storms and extreme weather events, and facilitating such research by operating the European Severe Weather Database (ESWD.eu), (co-) organizing the European Conferences on Severe Storms (ECSS.eu). With the ESSL Testbed, our Austria-based subsidiary ESSL-Science and Training provides a facility to test forecast tools, and offers training to Europe's weather forecasters.
