Travel information

The nearest international airport is Munich (MUC), about 40 kilometres southwest of Landshut. Landshut is also well-connected to the rail and road networks. The central station (Landshut Hbf) is about 1 kilometre from the city centre and the ECSS venue. The federal highway (Autobahn) A92/E35 has several exits to Landshut and is also a direct conncetion to Munich airport and the City of Munich. While you could even come by boat on the Isar river, or arrive by a small airplane on the Landshut airfield, most of you will surely prefer the more common travel options mentioned before.

If you arrive in Landshut by train, you can take a taxi or a bus downtown where most of the hotels and the venue are located. However, some hotels are in walking distance to the central station. If you arrive at Munich international airport, you have several options. Should you arrive in a group of about four people, sharing a taxi might be a convenient and inexpensive way to get to Landshut. Some hotels also offer a shuttle bus service. Please check with your hotel if they offer such a service and what the costs will be. If you arrive on your own, a taxi or shuttle bus ride will be less attractive. Instead, you could take the regular bus service between Munich airport (several stops) and Landshut (several stops downtown). The cost of a single ticket is EUR 10.50 and for a return ticket EUR 18. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver on the bus. The ride between the airport and Landshut takes about 40 minutes. More information (German only, sorry!) is available HERE, as well as the bus schedule to ("Hinfahrt") and from ("Rückfahrt") the airport. That is, to get from the airport to Landshut, the "Rückfahrt" schedule applies. When arriving in Landshut, the bus stop "Altstadt" is closest to downtown and the conference venue. In case you chose a hotel close to the central station, bus stop "Hauptbahnhof" is right for you.

Accomodation

Accommodation is available in a number of hotels, most of them within walking distance of the conference venue. The map below aids your orientation (click here for a PDF version or here for an interactive city map). The following paragraphs summarise relevant information so that ECSS or EUMETSAT workshop participants can organise their stay by themselves according to their personal needs.

Landshut centre with hotel locations

A list of five hotels in which block reservations have been made, with prices and conditions is available HERE. The list also indicates links to other hotels in Landshut and to the Youth Hostel as a low budget alternative.

ECSS and EUMETSAT workshop participants are kindly requested to make the hotel booking on their own, specifying the keyword ECSS when addressing those hotels with block reservations by phone, fax or eMail. Block reservations of rooms have been made for a first-come, first-serve basis. Early reservations are advisable as Landshut is receiving an increasing number of guests all year round.

All five hotels with block reservations under keyword "ECSS" are close to the venue. The first two of them are bigger hotels just across the river.

Of special style are the following hotels, the first two in the old town and the third is on an island in the Isar river:

No block reservations have been made in the following hotels:
The first in a lovely park at the city outskirts, and the last two also in walking distance north of the Isar river:

Click here for the complete list of hotels provided by the Landshut tourist office with the same reference numbers as in the map. It contains price ranges, hotel websites, eMail addresses, telephone and fax numbers, etc.

Low-budget youth hostel and youth guest house accommodation is also available, e.g., for students (yellow house symbol with tree to the south of the venue).
