Czech Hydrometeorological Institute

Main topics of the conference

  • types and conceptual models of severe convective storms, terminology of severe convective weather (invited speakers);

  • climatology of severe convective storms and related weather phenomena in Europe, specifically:
    • severe wind phenomena produced by convective storms, including both damaging straight-line winds (downbursts, microbursts) and tornadoes,
    • hail, heavy precipitation, and electrical phenomena produced by thunderstorms and related mesoscale systems;

  • detection, monitoring and research of severe convection by remote sensing techniques:
    • Doppler radars,
    • lightning detection and localization systems,
    • weather satellites;

  • ground and airborne surveys of damage caused by severe convective weather;

  • numerical modeling and forecasting of severe convective storms, synoptic and mesoscale processes associated with deep convection.
